Our Southern Asia Project

India is a country still beset by regional poverty. While India in general has seen a lowering in maternal mortality, seven Indian states still suffer from very high rates. These are Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha and Assam. 'Very high' MMR means 130 or more maternal deaths per 100,000 live births.
